"He's probably the world's most beautiful looking man, yet he doesn't think he's that gorgeous. And to me, he's just smelly, farty Leo."

Kate Winslet

" Sometimes Kate was in tears, other times I was, and occasionally we both were. It was that kind of job. But Kate is awesome. She is beautiful, tremendously talented and is really down to earth. I don't think England realizes what a treasure she is."

Leonardo DiCaprio

"Leo has mastered this more than anyone I know. It’s not that he’s sort of brazen like, "I don’t give a f—- and I’m going to be rebellious and behave badly." It’s not that. It’s genuinely not caring what people think because he will not allow other people’s judgments to have any kind of impact on his life and who he is. And I have really admired that so much in him " Kate,2013

"Leo still has the vulnerability and beauty of that child in This Boy’s Life and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. Kate has that same thing. She somehow retains that little girl, that innocence and naïveté. And that sense of play, no matter however serious she gets."-Sam Mendes

"We were joined at the hip. There was a moment when Kate and I were on the poop deck, which was on hydraulics. We looked down and there were, like, 20 men clinging onto the rail below us on bungee cords. And when the poop deck went to its peak, the guys jumped off and started bouncing off each other, bouncing off girders. [Three stunt men were injured on the shoot.] Then you looked up and saw, like, 18 cranes with huge lights shining on you, and Jim Cameron coming from a little spot in the sky, zooming in past your close-up to the people diving below you.
"Kate and I looked at each other. Our eyes just bugged out, and we said, ‘How did we get here? How did we get to this moment in time?’ " -Leo

DiCaprio revealed just how close he and Winslet have become since they formed what he describes as an “unbreakable bond” during the making of the hit film Titanic in 1997.
It has been, he told me in our previous meetings before the wedding, a relationship of laughter and tears all the way.“She’s one of my closest friends and feels we can say anything to each other,” he says. “We were both just kids of 21 when we made Titanic all those years ago. But, even then, Kate seemed more mature and worldly than I was.“I cried on her shoulder many times as we found the demands of filming under the director James Cameron so tough. We have never not been friends since that time. I speak to her all the time. But friends – not lovers.”

So what is it that keeps them together, nearly 16 years after the film’s release to become a box office success and, for Winslet, the first of six Oscar nominations?
“A sense of humour,” he says. “We laugh at the same things. She never lets me take myself seriously, even if I wanted to. We have a special magic.”

“Our own relationship? I would describe it as goofy. We are a little bit older, a little bit wiser but ultimately the same people as we were when we were 21.”

Ironically DiCaprio was set to accept the role of porn star Dirk Diggler (which went to Mark Wahlberg) in the award- winning film Boogie Nights before Titanic.“It appealed to me more,” he says. “I like edgy, independent stuff. I had never met Kate but she phoned and said: ‘I am going to say yes to this. Will you do so, too? ’ So I committed to Titanic instead. Regrets? None.”

Will it give him another chance of an elusive Oscar? No. But he’s soon to be seen in The Great Gatsby, which could be his breakthrough for Hollywood’s biggest award.“I have a long way to go before I catch up with Kate,” he says. X

"My favourite scene is the kiss in the poster. That sunset was real. We saw it beginning and in a few seconds decided to shoot, though we weren’t ready."
